Exterior and Interior

The U-Rail cargo system is not just novel, but also really awesome, even without the underfloor storage bracing. There may be simpler and lower-quality bonnets with support struts that I have seen before. To make sure all of your stuff stays there, this device comes with a mounted retractable elastic strap and multiple rigid-mount hooks. Looking at it brought back a flood of memories of my former roommate’s basement. No matter what, Cadillac should be applauded for understanding that a luxury car’s worth may be increased through the use of modern interior design. On the other hand, maybe they used CUE a bit too liberally.

Among car journalists, CUE is a favorite target of criticism, and it’s not fair. The fully-fledged digital equivalents found in more expensive Cadillac cars are my favorites, although I do love the customizable display embedded into the instrument cluster. Similarly, in this modern day, I am not irritated by the volume slider. But there is a tuning approach that avoids the preset hopping that I deeply regret. Aside from its occasional sluggishness, I wouldn’t have any complaints about CUE. I wouldn’t mind if the steering wheel could be programmed to skip stations instead of presets. During our initial inspection, we noted that the floor was flat and that the back seats had plenty of legroom. This means that you can still use the middle seat, even though the console takes up some of the legroom in that area. Regardless, when contrasted with rivals like the Lexus RX and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the SRX’s legroom is noticeably less. Although it’s lesser in volume than the two Germans, its passenger volume is greater than that of the Lexus.

There is just 4 mm of less legroom in the front than in the Q5, but 12 mm less legroom in the rear. Here we see yet another instance of the typical occurrence when the outer diameter of a domestic vehicle vanishes between the door skins. Besides being wider than all other cars save for the M-Class—which is 1,910 millimeters wider—and 20 millimeters longer than the next longest—4,834 millimeters—it is also the widest. Although it’s the largest of the four, the inside space is actually the smallest. Engine and Performance

Every single model was powered by the V6 engine. After just one year on the market, a 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 engine borrowed from Saab was pulled from production owing to low sales and other issues, despite its brief availability. Also available early on was a three-liter V6. The 2.8-liter turbo engine has been known to fail when run on regular-grade gasoline, hence it is not advised to use this powertrain. Most used copies of SRX do not contain it, which is a huge relief for us.

Beginning in 2012, all of the models were powered by GM’s 3.6-liter V6 engine, which began producing low-300 horsepower and was direct injected. Newer 3.6-liter units’ revised manifolds and programming have led to lighter engines with better breathing, somewhat better fuel economy, and slightly higher power. Thanks to its directional vibrations, this seat is great for keeping an eye out for potential blind spots and lane departures. But it doesn’t do a great job of showing you where the available parking spot is in the garage. The seat is more of an eye-catcher than anything else, since the camera more than fulfills its purpose. The truth is that most cameras can handle the task; the question then becomes why those bothersome tone devices are even necessary. From what I gather, their sole purpose is to rouse my daughter.

The 1,940 kg SRX seems like a mammoth thanks to the 3.6-liter engine in this configuration. I couldn’t tell if the SRX’s weak performance was caused by its gearbox or engine, but it certainly never provided convincing power. To make matters worse, this four-cylinder engine doesn’t feel as powerful as some others seen in mid-size SUVs. You won’t find that kind of engine here. Especially when it comes to cases when the potential economic benefits are uncertain. Compared to the Audi Q5, Lexus RX 350 (11.2 L/100 km), and Mercedes-Benz ML350 (12.4 L/100 km), the SRX’s combined fuel economy rating is worse at 12.4 L/100 km. Not only is it not smooth, but the engine is slow and noisy whenever you push on it—which it is constantly doing because you risk being rear-ended as you merge onto the interstate if it isn’t. I usually prefer a pedal that responds quickly and forcefully, and this one provides that—but it’s wooden. Prior to making touch with what appears to be a brick beneath the pedal, its inch of travel possesses a sponge-like texture. Although the brakes work well, they have an awful feel. At the end of the day, it was somewhat unnerving.

Considering the Cadillac SRX’s four-wheel independent suspension and the brand’s usual reputation for producing comfy seats, one would expect it to be an absolute doddle to drive. We configured it to be harsher than strictly necessary so that the suspension may achieve a slightly greater level of sportiness. When compared to its competitors in the mid-range segment, Cadillac isn’t as sporty or comfortable to drive. It provides a wobbly ride that is harsh on road seams and potholes and loses its composure when turning corners. Both the Performance and Premium grades come standard with power-assisted, hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering that is speed-sensitive and variable-effort. The trim level in question does not come with the variable-effort speed-sensitive option. The power-adjustable pedals, cruise control, and blind-spot warning are nice extras, though I wish I had remembered to mention them before writing the review.

My legs are as close to yours as a T-Rex’s arms are to yours, and the interior lighting doesn’t help matters either. Also included are eight speakers from Bose, a motorized liftgate, a huge sunroof, heated steering wheel, and a rear-view camera.
